The Opportunity That is Menopause

When most women think about menopause care, they think about the hot flashes, night sweats, sleep and mood changes, weight gain and whether or not they should consider HRT. Of course, all of these things matter.

But menopause care is bigger than symptom management.

In fact, menopause comes with a golden opportunity for determining how the next several decades feel as we age.

The hormonal changes that happen in perimenopause and menopause influence many body systems: your heart, your bones, your metabolism, your brain, your breast health, your energy, sleep, muscle mass, etc.

And here lies the golden opportunity: we can use this season of life to understand your baselines, assess risks and make a plan that supports the vision of aging you want to experience.

Many of the women I work with are also at a stage of life where they’re watching their parents or older loved ones age and it can bring up a lot of feelings. You may see examples that feel inspiring and hopeful. Other times, you may see things that make you think, “I don’t want that to be my experience if there’s anything I can do to change the trajectory.”

We can’t control everything. Certainly, genetics, environment and life circumstances all play a role in how we feel as we age. But we can become more informed. We can look at your current health picture and identify patterns early., We can support any of these body systems that need attention. And we can make proactive choices to reap the benefits of early intervention.

In my practice, menopause care includes looking at things like cardiovascular risk, bone density, breast cancer risk, sleep, stress, muscle mass, nutrition and many other pieces of your health puzzle, because they all work together.

Your 40’s, 50’s and 60’s can be the beginning of a more intentional relationship with your health. It’s a moment to take stock, take the reins, and ask how you want to feel in the decades ahead.

What kind of strength, clarity, mobility, energy and experiences do you want to have? And what can we do now to support that?
